Distracting Players
Do you ever have that itch? The itch to wager, to head to the closest casino, to find a good stakes game of Texas hold'em, to sit at a Chemin de fer table for hours on end. I like that itch. And I really like to scratch it.I also like to watch people today wager. No 2 poker faces seem the same. When I gamble I like to think I put on a poker face that's impenetrable. Except I know I have particular mannerisms. For 1, the only time I smoke cigarettes is when I wager on poker or Black jack. And then I smoke. Except I chain smoke whether I am succeeding or losing, whether I've a great hand or bad.
I once played in the weekly poker game. The game was often five card draw. There was a man who bet with us just about every week who often wore a hat. When he was given a good hand, unconsciously, he would begin touching and playing with his hat. Pointless to say, he never won.
The greatest poker player I ever saw was a guy who made much more movements and gestures at a poker table than anyone I had ever met. He was impeccable in the way he dressed. Often an pricey suit and tie, footwear shined and nails manicured. He was meticulous in this manner. And he was usually brushing his pant leg or holding his hands or stacking his chips in neat little piles.
I use to examine him for hours on end. I'd attempt to see if I could spot his tell. Picking lint off his jacket- did this imply he was bluffing? Arranging his chips in a very short pile - did this mean he had a beneficial hand?
Years later I ran into him in a bar in Chicago, il and we had a beer. I asked him if he had been aware of all those movements he produced or if they had been unconscious. He told me that just about every single thing he did at a poker table was deliberate. He said that everyone is always checking out everybody else's poker face. They're attempting to detect the the tell.
So his program was to give them lots to assume about. His thinking was if they have been pondering about him choosing a piece of lint off his jacket and what it meant they sure weren't pondering about their cards.
His technique was diversion. And it worked for him. In no way give up a method that functions for you.
